Professor Gareth Morgan qualified in Manchester in 1977 and has almost forty years’ experience as a general and specialised paediatrician (MRCP Paediatrics, 1980, FRCPCH, 1997). For over thirty years, he has had specialised in the care of patients with immunodeficiency and immunological disorders (MD Thesis, 1988). He was an Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1986-87, 1989-1996 and 2013-14. He worked in a primary health care facilities (paediatrics, adult medicine, obstetrics) in rural and urban Africa for five years, and has inpatient and outpatient general paediatric experience including emergency on call and accident and emergency in the UK, Africa and Kuwait.
Professor Morgan has also been Laboratory Director (investigation of immunological disorders – FRCPath, 2004) and Dean of the Medical School at Swansea University 2008-2012. He has over 100 research publications on aspects of childhood immune disorders. His special interests include immunodeficiency and immunological disorders, such as recurrent, severe and unusual infections, immunisation, allergy, autoimmunity and nutritional immunity. Investigation of possible immune-mediated fatigue and psychological disorders is an increasing part of his practice.
