As part of her training, Dr Margarita Burmester studied at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, Canada and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. She has been a consultant at Royal Brompton Hospital since 2002, with a two-year sabbatical as an associate staff member at Boston Children’s Hospital and has been Director of Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) since 2011.
Dr Burmester has a strong interest in patient safety. She founded and directs the award winning SPRinT (Simulated interPRofessional Team Training) programme in order to enhance patient safety through high-level team training in the clinical environment. She is a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators, an Executive Board Member of the Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) and is a patient safety judge in education and training for the Patient’s Safety Congress, UK.
Dr Burmester also speaks Greek.
